The Pacific Basin Institute Lecture Series invites artists, curators, scholars, and activists to present bodies of work featured in the international exhibition, Hawai‘i Triennial 2022, Pacific Century – E Ho‘omau no Moananuiākea, which foregrounds the Hawaiian archipelago’s location at the confluence of Asia-Pacific and Oceania. Touching on the exhibition’s intersecting themes of history, place, and identity, guest speakers consider the question: how can local cultural rights and sovereignty struggles be articulated in a global exhibition platform?

Imagined Futures invites students from West O‘ahu to present artwork around the idea of looking at history to heal the past and envision pathways forward. Specifically, the project encourages students to imagine how the decommissioned military bunkers at Pu‘uokapolei—a culturally significant place in the ahupua‘a of Honouliuli—could be fully realized as a place for community and contemporary art.

We're rethinking the possibilities of our waste with upcycling – the process of transforming our perceived trash into useful items.
In addition to encouraging creativity through crafting, our free, upcycling workshops will teach budding artists about the value of a variety of materials they see in their everyday lives.
Our artist-teachers will guide participants of all ages to repurpose various materials, including bottle caps, plastic water bottles, milk cartons, unwanted T-shirts, paper, and more!

The Ulu A‘e Learning Center through the Adopt A Park program with the City and County of Honolulu stewards the site of Puʻuokapolei. Join the Ulu A'e Learning Center for a guided afternoon visit to Pu'uokapolei and visit the former military bunkers of Fort Barrette. This a culturally significant place in Kapolei, could be realized as a community space as a part of future Hawai‘i Contemporary art initiatives.
A Talk with HT22 Artist Ai Iwane
Join us for a morning talk with Tokyo photographer and HT22 artist Ai Iwane, and catch up with her busy and successful career following the 2018 exhibition Island in My Mind, Fukushima at MACC, in Schaefer International Gallery. Ai will share a new video No Man Ever Steps in the Same River Twice, her latest work Kipuka and A New River, currently in HT22, at Honolulu Museum of Art (HoMA).
