HT22: Lauhala Weaving Lesson at Royal Hawaiian Center

LAUHALA WEAVING LESSONS

WED • FEB 23, 2022
11AM

Royal Hawaiian Center, Building A, Level 2, 2201 Kalakaua Ave, Honolulu, HI 96815

For HT22, Miao Ying's online work Hardcore Digital Detox (HDD) is evolving into a series of meditation and mindfulness instructions consciously playing with the paradisiacal image of Hawaiʻi and experienced via Virtual Reality (VR). To contrast with the virtuality of this utopian environment, the HT22 iteration of HDD on view at Royal Hawaiian Center also include a IRL workshop series of mind-body practice such as 'selfie' drawing by hand and lauhala weaving.

Every Wednesday, the Royal Hawaiian Center offers free lauhala weaving lessons with Kumu Bill Keoua Nelson! The lesson will cover the basic skills, technique, preparation and crafting of hala leaves into wearable Hawaiian art, such as a bracelet. Classes are limited to the first 25 persons, ages 7 and older.
