Moveable Feast with EATING IN PUBLIC
SAT • NOV 12
Two sessions: 2:00pm | 3:15pm
Mānoa Heritage Center
2856 Oahu Avenue • Honolulu
Join HT22 artist EATING IN PUBLIC for a tasting event featuring a range of common “weeds” found on O‘ahu. Participants will learn about weeds, try a few raw, as a tea, and sample three different culinary preparations of amaranth (ohitashi, bancha, and stir-fry).
Moveable Feast, which was included in Hawai‘i Triennial 2022, is part of EATING IN PUBLIC’s ongoing sidewalk-to-table project centered on edible weeds. In addition to installations of edible weeds in unexpected sites around O‘ahu, the project comprises cooking demonstrations, tastings, recipe sharing, dinners, identification of edible weeds, and more. Moveable Feast challenges common perceptions of “weeds” as interlopers within “native/national” spaces and aims to reframe and promote knowledge around plants that share our world.
