Rice Brewing Sisters Club (RBSC) is an artist collective established in 2018 around the members’ crossing interests in experimenting with the processes of “social fermentation” as an artistic form. With a participatory practice encompassing visual arts, performance, creative writing, oral history, ecological thinking, and auntie’s wisdoms, RBSC seeks to build synergetic networks to co-create shared visions for the future. RBSC has been operating as a flexible and open-ended collective in which members decide their membership and extent of contribution at the end of each year. Six years into working together, we hope to rebuild the current structure to become more sustainable, systematic, and financially autonomous. RBSC’s current initiative, Rice Brewing Sisters Production (RBSP) is RBSC’s seeking to go beyond the conventional revenue streams of public funding and project-based commissions, prototyping collective economic models and experiments toward financial autonomy. Our aim is to think of RBSP as both a community and an organism, which is granted financial and legal rights while simultaneously being an experimental space for methods of co-creation and their adjustments.
