Kahi Ching is a Native Hawaiian contemporary artist who has contributed significantly to the Kānaka art histories for over four decades. His work spans artistic disciplines, from drawing and painting to sculpture and horticulture. His practice of ‘umeke lā‘au brings together traditional bonsai techniques with a deeply cultural perspective, grounded in Hawaiʻi. He has completed numerous public commissions across the Hawaiian Islands, including a project through the Honolulu Mayor's Office on Culture and the Arts. His work has been collected by the Hawaiʻi State Foundation on Culture and the Arts, amongst numerous other significant private collections. Recent group exhibitions include Thinking Historically in the Present, Sharjah Biennial 15 (2023), ʻAi Pōhaku, Stone Eaters, Commons Gallery, University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa (2023), and 30th Annual Hawaiʻi Woodshow (2022).
